More Natural Light

Large fixed glass façades and the transparent sloped roof introduce more natural light into the room, keeping the space bright and open even during winter or cloudy days while reducing reliance on artificial lighting.

Excellent Thermal Insulation

Thermally broken aluminum framing and Low-E insulated tempered glass reduce heat transfer and winter heat loss, helping the sunroom maintain a more stable and comfortable indoor temperature.

Stable Structure

Reinforced primary beams, columns, and roof-support structures are designed according to local wind and snow-load requirements, ensuring long-term stability in cold, windy, and snowy

Comfort in All Seasons

Multiple sealing systems, insulated glazing, and appropriate ventilation work together to improve indoor comfort, allowing the sunroom to support family activities throughout all four seasons.

This fixed sunroom in Kanata makes full use of the home’s south-facing orientation to bring valuable winter sunlight indoors, creating a bright, warm, and comfortable living experience. The spacious glazed enclosure not only expands the home’s usable area but also creates a stronger visual connection between the interior and the backyard landscape. The project incorporates high-performance thermally broken aluminum framing, Low-E insulated tempered glass, a fixed sloped glass roof, and multiple sealing systems. These features preserve panoramic views and abundant natural light while reducing cold-air infiltration and indoor heat loss during winter. After completion, the sunroom became a versatile family leisure area suitable for reading, children’s activities, relaxation, and everyday entertainment. It combines scenic enjoyment, practical use, and year-round comfort, adding valuable living space to the home.

Selected Challenges & Solutions

Severe Cold and Heavy Snow

Kanata experiences low winter temperatures and heavy snowfall, requiring the sunroom roof and main structure to provide reliable load-bearing capacity, wind resistance, and cold-weather durability.

improve structural strength

Enlarged primary beams and columns were used, and the roof structure was optimized according to local snow-load requirements. High-performance thermally broken aluminum was also selected to improve structural strength, insulation, and long-term durability.

Balancing Daylight and Privacy

The homeowner wanted to maximize natural light and open views while reducing the impact of outside visibility on the family’s private living space.

Shop drawings and production support for contractors

Large fixed glass panels, optimized reflective performance, and careful spatial planning preserve transparency and clear views while improving visual comfort and privacy.

Condensation and Sealing

Large indoor-outdoor temperature differences during Canadian winters can cause condensation, moisture buildup, and cold-air infiltration around the glazing and frames.

reduce heat transfer and air infiltration

Low-E insulated tempered glass, thermally broken aluminum framing, and multiple air- and water-tight sealing systems reduce heat transfer and air infiltration, helping keep the interior dry, warm, and stable.
