The hotel faces the bay and benefits from excellent coastal views, but the environment places demanding requirements on structural strength, corrosion resistance, and water tightness. The client also wanted to increase the glazed area in guest rooms and public spaces. Large fixed glazing, impact-resistant sliding doors, and transparent curtain walls were introduced. Slim profiles minimize obstruction to the ocean views, while laminated safety glass and reinforced frames improve reliability during strong winds and wind-driven rain. The completed systems provide a more modern and transparent façade while improving daylight, views, safety, comfort, and long-term coastal durability.
Selected Challenges & Solutions
Coastal Wind and Rain Protection
Large glazed areas needed to withstand coastal winds and wind-driven rain.
→
Impact-Resistant Glazing and Reinforced Aluminum Frames
Laminated safety glazing, reinforced frames, multi-point locking, and optimized connections improve safety and stability under demanding weather conditions.
Long-Term Durability in Salt-Air Conditions
Marine air may accelerate corrosion of surfaces and hardware.
→
Corrosion-Resistant Materials and Weather-Resistant Finishes
Coastal-grade finishes, corrosion-resistant hardware, and high-performance seals reduce maintenance requirements and extend system service life.
Balancing Views and Structural Safety
Larger glazing required careful control of frame deflection and glass loads.
→
Slim Frames and Optimized Structural Divisions
Columns, mullions, and glazing divisions were optimized according to opening dimensions, building height, and wind requirements.
